There are no ads in Claude. Anthropic said on 4 February 2026 that conversations with Claude will carry no ads, sponsored links or product placements, and there is no advertiser platform. A company gets recommended by Claude the same way it does on ChatGPT: by being on the review sites, directories and roundups Claude fetches with Claude-SearchBot, by being readable when it fetches your own pages, and by checking the same buyer questions again after the work.
What Anthropic said, and when
On 4 February 2026 Anthropic published 'Claude is a space to think' and bought Super Bowl airtime for it. The line in the commercials was 'Ads are coming to AI. But not to Claude.' The post says there are many good places for advertising and a conversation with Claude is not one of them, that responses will not be influenced by advertisers, and that there will be no sponsored links or product placements. It also says the approach may be revisited, transparently, if needed.
The timing was a reply: OpenAI had announced ads in ChatGPT on 16 January and began showing them on 9 February. So the two largest assistants split on the question in the same month, and as of 21 September 2026 the split holds: ChatGPT runs a self-serve Ads Manager in 55 countries; Claude has no ad product, no advertiser sign-up and no pixel.
What that means for a business that wants to be recommended by Claude
There is one route, and it is the free one: be in the answer. Claude with web search does what the other engines do. It runs a search, fetches a handful of pages through its search crawler, reads them, and writes an answer that names companies with a sentence each and a citation. It does not keep a list of companies and it does not take money to put one on it. If the pages it fetched for 'best dentist in Dubai' name four clinics, those are the four it names.
So the questions for a marketer are the same ones the ChatGPT guide asks. Which buyer questions is your company missing from? Which pages did the engine read to answer them? Are you on those pages? Can the engine read yours?
The five things that decide it
- Crawler access. Anthropic runs two crawlers: ClaudeBot for training and Claude-SearchBot for search answers and citations. A site that blocks both, or blocks everything at the CDN edge, cannot be read or cited; it can only be described from what other sites say. Allow Claude-SearchBot in robots.txt; the crawler check shows the current state per crawler.
- The sources. For any category there is a short list of pages the engines keep citing: a review site, a directory, two or three roundups, a forum. A profile on the review site with ten reviews to quote gets named; no profile means a rival's is read instead. The reviews guide has the counts from real runs.
- Your own pages, said plainly. One sentence at the top of the home page saying what you do and for whom, prices and scope in words rather than images, Organization and Product or Service schema, an llms.txt. The starter kit writes the files.
- Pages worth quoting. A comparison page, an alternatives page, a page per use case in the buyer's words. These are the pages the engines quote when they compare vendors, and most companies do not have them.
- The same questions, again. Ask the same fifteen questions next month. Named in four instead of one is progress you can show; a feeling that Claude knows you now is not.
How to check whether Claude recommends you today
By hand: open Claude with web search on, ask ten of your buyers' questions ('best X in Y', 'X for a 40-person team', 'A vs B', 'A alternatives'), and note which companies it names and which pages it cites. An hour, and the citations are the list of pages to work on.
Or start with the four engines the free report runs. It derives the questions from your site, asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, and lists every source they cited and whether each names you. Claude reads the same web; the review sites and roundups in that table are the ones it will fetch too.
Claude versus ChatGPT, for advertisers and for the rest of us
| ChatGPT | Claude | |
|---|---|---|
| Ads in the product | Yes, below answers, Free and Go users, since February 2026 | No, stated policy since February 2026 |
| Self-serve ads platform | ads.openai.com, 55 countries | None |
| Conversion measurement | Pixel and Conversions API | Not applicable |
| Do ads change the answer? | No, by OpenAI's policy | No ads to change it |
| How a company gets named | Be on the pages it reads | Be on the pages it reads |
| Search crawler to allow | OAI-SearchBot | Claude-SearchBot |
| Training crawler you may refuse | GPTBot | ClaudeBot |
The last four rows are the point. Whatever happens to ad products, the answer is written from the web, and the work to be in it is the same on every engine.

Questions about Claude and advertising
Can I advertise on Claude?
No. Anthropic said on 4 February 2026 that there will be no ads or sponsored links in conversations with Claude, that Claude's answers will not be influenced by advertisers, and that there will be no third-party product placements. There is no Claude Ads Manager, no pixel and no waiting list; a site offering to sell you Claude ad placements is not selling Anthropic's.
Is there an Anthropic ads platform coming?
Anthropic's post keeps one door open: 'should we need to revisit this approach, we'll be transparent about our reasons for doing so.' As of September 2026 nothing has changed. If it does, this page will say so with a date.
How does Claude decide which companies to recommend?
When Claude uses web search it fetches pages through Claude-SearchBot, reads them, and writes an answer with citations. The companies it names are the ones the pages it fetched name: review sites, directories, comparison articles, roundups, the companies' own pages. There is no list and no ranking to buy into.
Does blocking ClaudeBot stop Claude recommending me?
Blocking ClaudeBot affects training. Claude-SearchBot is the crawler that reads pages for search answers and citations, and blocking it means Claude cannot read or cite your pages; it can still name you from what other sites say. Allow Claude-SearchBot even if you refuse ClaudeBot; our free crawler check reads your robots.txt and tells you which is which.
Does your report measure Claude?
Not as one of its four engines today. The report runs ChatGPT with web search, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini. Claude with web search reads the same review sites, directories and roundups those four cite, so the sources table and the fixes carry over; a Claude column is on our list.
What is the difference between Claude and ChatGPT for a marketer?
ChatGPT sells a labelled ad slot under its answers to Free and Go users and lets you measure it with a pixel; Claude sells nothing and shows nothing. In both, the answer itself is written from the pages the engine reads, so the work that gets you named is the same work: be on the sources, be readable when they fetch you, and check again on the same questions.
How we get your company into AI answers
- 01
Read the answers
Your buyers' questions, put to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews. Who is named, in what order, which pages each engine cites.
- 02
Find the sources
The pages the engines cited, ranked by how many of your questions they decide. That list is the work.
- 03
Publish the gap
We write the page that answers the question you are missing from and ship it to your domain.
- 04
Earn the citation
Listings claimed, the sites the engines already trust pitched, and the same questions asked again at day 30 until the answer names you.
